  • Progress on single-wall carbon nanotubes (SWNT). Abstract: This invention relates generally to a forming an array of single-wall carbon nanotubes (SWNT) in an electric field and compositions thereof. In one embodiment, a purified bucky paper of single-wall carbon nanotubes is used as the starting material. Upon oxidative treatment of the bucky paper surface, many tube and/or rope ends protrude up from the surface of the paper. Disposing the resulting bucky paper in an electric field results in the protruding tubes and or ropes of single-wall carbon nanotubes aligning in a direction substantially perpendicular to the paper surface. These tubes tend to coalesce to form a molecular array. In another embodiment, a molecular array of SWNTs can be made by “combing” the purified bucky paper starting material with a sharp microscopic tip to align the nanotubes.

  • Abstract   A remote position monitoring system, method, and computer-program product using a global position satellite receiver and information from at least two global position satellites to determine a position of a mobile object with the global position satellite receiver and report via Internet the position of the mobile object to a recipient in search of the mobile object. A remote position reporting device of the monitoring system can be part of or attached to any mobile object such as a child, a skier, a car, and expensive items. The remote position reporting device includes a global positioning system (GPS) receiver, monitoring software and an Internet access module. The monitoring software (e.g., a dynamic link library) supports multiple data formats and multiple protocols to communicated the position information. The GPS receiver provides the monitoring software with position information at prescribed times, and the monitoring software records the position information. ...

    US Pat. 7093803 - Filed Dec 16, 2003   Filing date: Dec 16, 2003
Issue date: Aug 22, 2006      Inventor: David A. Culp   www.KiteShip.com  [Ed:  There is a strong use of fully-flexible kite sails that remind one of the Rogallo parawing family of sails, but it seems that the KiteShip company leaves itself open to the use of any kite in its systems, e. g. Jalbert parafoil wings.]
    Abstract
    Text not available
Aerodynamic wing to propel a broad range of transport means, principally sail craft. The wing provides a single layer kite structure capable of flying without surface discontinuity, bridles, or rigid or semi-rigid structure. All stresses within the wing are converted into pure tension and transferred through the wing surface outward to attachment lines. The wing shape defines a large diameter self-supporting rolled over leading edge of an airfoil and the wing profile approaching the trailing edge exhibits increasing convexity. The wing is useful to propel, or supplement propulsion to, transportation means.  [Ed. The patent claims seem to strive to make a distinction for the sail that sets it apart from the Rogallo, Barish, and Jalbert wings; whether or not the sail intended is a proper subset of the Rogallo parawing will remain a matter of interesting discussion for years to come. Single-lob Rogallo parawing governable parachutes/paragliders/traction kite/hang-gliders would have a presence in such a discerning discussion.]

Abstract
An aerodynamic wing formed by a flexible canopy with an internally routed canopy line for controlling the canopy profile.

Abstract
An airfoil for use in kites, movable wing aircraft and fixed wing aircraft has a straight spar inserted into a sleeve in the arcuate leading edge of a flexible wing panel. The resultant forces on the spar dynamically shape the airfoil. The airfoil is reinforced by battens between the leading edge and the trailing edge of the wing panel. Flight control is maintained through control lines warping the airfoil.   U. S. Patent number: 7007889 Filing date: Jun 15, 2004

The flexibilities and time costs here by me will be more productive for the specific "timeline" evolution. Efforts by wiki workers is ever encouraged; the dual process will net some added benefits for the hang gliding community. Jan. 22, 2007   Anyone is invited to advance the Wikipedia project from material presented here in HGHT. Each process has some distinct editorial assets; there are some ups and downs, pros and cons in both processes; from both going in parallel, perhaps we will have a grand party! Special research call: Mike Koman built a fixed-wing hang glider of double surface and with taper. A guy in Pennsylvania may have some photographs as the wing was largely built in a garage in Pennsylvania. The flights were partly in California.
