Powered hang gliders (includes powered paragliders)          EnterData

Structural design tackles the fact of any power system that is intended in the aircraft system. So, ordinarily, one does not just add a power subassembly to what was originally intended simply as an un-powered hang glider system.  Similarly, if towing a hang glider is intended, then structural respect in the system for the towing potentialities are brought into the design process.  The aircraft (microlight, ultralight, ...) can be unpowered while using thermals, slope lift.   The craft may be landed unpowered safely.

Powered?  What sources of power?

  • Muscle power of pilot before the flight.

  • Muscle power of the pilot before and during launching.

  • Muscle power of the pilot before, during launch, and during some parts of the flight.

  • Combination of muscle power of the pilot with other sources of power.

  • Fueled engines for minor or major aspects of the take-off or flight.

  • Solar-power (stored or real-time) on-board.

  • Solar-power for charging batteries or loading stored-energy system.

  • Launch-assist-only from power.

  • Flight-assisted powering.

  • Flywheel

  • Rubber band
