Launch from kited platform:

Launching methods
PG Activity Sector

  • Drop paraglider from a balloon.
  • Drop paraglider from a kite's wing part.
  • Drop paraglider from a kite's tether set.
  • Launch master kite; attach paraglider to the master kite's line and sail the captive paraglider up the master kite's line and then wait for thermal to pass and release from the master line into free-flight.
  • Foot launch a paraglider from a kite-held platform.
  • Foot launch a paraglider from a blimp's top surface.
  • Foot launch a paraglider from a blimp-held platform
  • Drop from an already-flying paraglider.
  • Drop from an already flying hang glider.
  • Drop from an ultralight aircraft.
  • Drop from a powered aircraft.

  • Fly the wing and tether set unmanned via extra-long launching tethers; once wing is kited very high and is lifting via thermal, then human pilot power climbs the tethers up to the shorter tethers to enter into free-flight gliding kite mode, hence paragliding from that point forward.

  • Pack the paraglider into a projectile tube and cannon-shoot the capsule to altitude for deployment.
  • Pack paraglider and sling wad by slingshot and then open wing at top of the trajectory.

  • Tow the paraglider using static-line length using car, truck, friends, animals, boat, ship, train, dogs, etc.

  • Tow the paraglider to altitude using powered winch  through a field-set pulley with line to a fixed-position winch.

  • In fully conservative airs foot launch into gliding flight off appropriate structures (artificial or natural).

  • Have a cable between two mountain peaks; move paraglider out to mid cable and drop from the cable.

  • Drop-mass tow up paraglider to release at altitude. Drop-mass may be on a land scene or on a water-body scene.

  • Nil-wind smallish hydrogen balloon carries up wing set. Wait for thermal. Be lifted off ground. Climb line. Soar. Discussing at FORUM at topic thread #32 and following.  Climbing options: motorized, engine, pilot muscle direct, pilot-muscle energy stored and used in chunks.

  • Lift just the wing set and long tether in nil wind via solar-heated-air balloon. Wait for thermal to hold the wing set and balloon; with good timing begin to climb the long tether while controlling the wing set in the thermal.  Either detach from balloon and have its return line be used to keep the balloon; dump the air and have the balloon canopy available for another use later.

  • Examine beaded chutes on kite or kytoon or balloon lifted line. Study the sink rates.  Decommissioning the chutes.

  • Start a flight session at 1000 m AGL. How  to do such?  All ideas are welcome. See associated landing topic of stopping a PG flight session at AGL of 1000 m; how?
