sept

Scottish – Or Celtic –
Reference to family tree - lineage – the term is distinguishing ones Heritage or blood line – by parent – Sept Mother / Clan Father
All the “family” from the mother’s side of an offspring - is SEPT
All the “family” from the father’s side are “CLAN” –
Prominent or Dominant –inheritance will always be from a CLAN-
Or from the actual Surname of individual – in your case your clan is FAUST – whatever name was your mother’s maiden name will thus be your SEPT family

In Scottish tradition one may wear the Clan’s Crest & Tartan
Also one may indeed be privileged to also wear the SEPT Tartan with Honor , even though you do not actually carry the “name” or Surname
– although as in most western civilizations –
the Fathers name is passed along to the offspring –

In the case of my mother - She was from Clan Tucker –
But her mother’s (clan) / Lala’s mother’s SEPT NAME maiden name was MacNeil –

I carry the family name MacNeil as a sept name not a clan name
*I was named (NEIL) after the “sept” family on my mother’s side-
the MacNeil … Clan …MacNeil of Berra
1. The Clan MacNeil based in Isle of Barra, Western Isles
