Group: kitepatents Message: 402 From: Joe Faust Date: 12/6/2010
Subject: Parachute trajectory control by Glen J. Brown

The linear actuators control the parachute's angle of attach and gliding ratio and gliding direction. This is a kite system heavily using the term "parachute" as main focus is the letting down of payloads by fall arresting via a wing conventionally termed parachute; the effective kiting via the instructed control method permits piloting the net gliding kite to prescribed destinations.  In focus is a type of hung-mass glider or hang glider or free-gliding kite system with mooring free to fall and move. In focus is a changing of the angle of attack by means of shifting the position of the weight of the payload via change of lengths of the tethers or kitelines involved. This functionality is used in paragliding and kite flying. Here the linear actuators are interesting.  The text erroneously declares "non-gliding parachute" when the whole patent focus is on using aerdynamic gliding mechanics to alter the trajectory; so, the net system is a gliding parachute; and because of the tethers and the payload moving mooring, the device and system is a kite system.

Subject: Re: Parachute trajectory control by Glen J. Brown

 Want to soften the impact?  Climb the lines quickly!  Or shorten the lines quickly.

 The extreme of this is the getting up into the air by climbing the hang line of a skyhook of some description.

Fly a kite; have a drop line from the upper kite tether. Climb up the drop line; if one can climb the line faster than the hang point's approach to the earth, then one gets up into the air. Consider some extremes on this matter for some interesting athletic events.

(54) KITE MADE OF COUPLED TUBES AND MANUFACTURING METHOD OF THE SAME
(57)Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To give dimensionality to a kite itself by simplifying and making easy of controlling the way of attaching bridle legs as drawing lines to balance the whole kite and to make the structure of the kite cheap and simple.
SOLUTION: A kite made of coupled tubes is formed by stitching kite- structuring members 1A, 1B, 1C, 1D and 1E. These kite-structuring members 1A, 1B, 1C, 1D and 1E are adjoined each other and sewed up the plural side faces of the same to form a hog-backed shape to make up a kite main body 1, which is having the each 1/3 periphery of the kite structuring members 1A, 1B, 1C, 1D and 1E as the lower part and the 2/3 of the same as the upper part. Either one or the other side of the 2/3 of the opening of the kite- structuring members 1A, 1B, 1C, 1D and 1E, which are composing this kite main body 1, are partly sewed up to remain opened and to form ventilators. Hemming parts 3 are set in both the outer most kite-structuring members 1A and 1E to make their peripheries become the lower part. Each one end of front bridle legs 4 matched to the same length are fixed to the left and right side of the kite main body 1, together with the other ends, these front bridle legs 4 are connected to a flying line 5.

=======================

AWECS sometimes will use expansion-contraction to effect system operations or practical works.
George T. Lee instructs a method of releasing a lifted mass. Indeed, one of the branches of AWE
is to convert wind's energy by a kite system to effect the lifting of masses for follow-on release
of the lifted mass to satisfy some practical purpose and perhaps save operators from having
to use coal, oil, or natural gas to achieve similar results.       ~ JoeF

He admits that the "advertiser" may be supported by "aerial vehicle of sufficient capacity to meet the requirements for which it is emploed.  Hence, a HTA kite could supply the lift of the surface that he describes.

The "capture rope" is a tether to the lifter. He seems to have missed the opportunity to allow for a capture rope that would double as the feed-gas element that would replenish the deficiency of lifting gas lost by exosmosis.

The instruciton for handling  wind "flaws"  affects the future of line laundry, lifted flags, hazard flags, etc.

VERGNANO, Giovanni

==========================================

Discussion is open.

The applicant aims to have AWECS with generator on ground and provides a means to bring upper windpower to the ground for conversion to electricity.  He mentions that the Sky WindPower exploration with flygen has the challenge of ever lifting the weight of the generator to the sky and ever having to have an electrically conductive cable.      Vergnano instructs somewhat like those instructors of earlier AWECS patented functions where mechanical energy is carried by the kite tether to the ground for driving the rotation of a rotary current generator or the oscillation of a linear current generator.
