Abstract

Patent number: D488514

Filing date: Sep 9, 2002
Issue date: Apr 13, 2004
Application number: 29/167,154============Now consider sneaking in generators into Tabor's basic "Amazing kite" ... one generator per rotor (two side rotors and one tail helical rotor)

This patent only regards the appearance to the eye with regards to lines.
What is seen is not required to function mechanically.  Scale is not indicated.

Don was not claiming generation of electricity for sending elsewhere; he is just claiming the appearance of a design.
The kite energy heart would consider various ways to put some of that spinning into generating electricity or sound or heat.

Subject: Classifications in patent offices?

 Patent systems have classification systems and symbols for classes and subclasses, etc.  Where does one find kite matters living within the classification systems? There may be errors of classifying a particular patent's set of claims. A patent claim involving the kite environment or culture may be on a mechanical aspect that is not dependent on embedding in a kite system.    Discussions over classes and subclasses are welcome ... with an eye of finding and better knowing patents that serve the kite world.  Interesting kite-related patents are found outside the 244/153 USPTO classification.

USPTO notes:
153 KITES:
  This subclass is indented under the class definition.  Devices connected by a string or cord to a remote point and sustained by relative movement of air past surfaces.
(1) Note. Kites containing buoyant gas to provide additional sustentation are found in this class, subclass 33.

Subject: Tocher teaches
Tocher applies for a kite-energy patent with wind-energy conversion devices.
We intend to have in this topic thread all items of interest regarding Angus J. Tocher.   So, feel free to discuss his wind, kite, and wind-energy claims.

Two patent applications that we know of at the moment:
Filed in 2003:
Application number: 10/625,953
Publication number: US 2005/0017514 A1
Filing date: Jul 23, 2003

Laminar flow, suction driven, wind energy conversion

and
Filed in 2008 for a definite application for a kite patent:
Application number: 12/181,095
Publication number: US 2010/0019099 A1
Filing date: Jul 28, 2008

Integrally Ribbed Rogallo Wing Array

Each of the two teachings are distinct, but I notice an artistic connection in the handling of cells for suction and the cells of ducting for lofted turbine sets.

We add two different wind patents with an eye to whether or not the notions involved may be airborne into kite systems or not. Open for discussion.

Habitat friendly, pressure conversion, wind energy extraction

Habitat friendly, multiple impellor, wind energy extraction

Patent number: 7220096
Filing date: Jul 16, 2004
Issue date: May 22, 2007
Application number10/892,896

Will the notions remain valid and perhaps useful when the tower is replaced with kite-tether systems?

A clip from the patents:
==================================
==================================
combined with drawings seem fairly certain that a non-kite-tether system is in focus;
but WHAT IF one considers a strong kite-system as a "stationary riser extending above the surface of the earth"
then will Tocher's claims be applicable into the AWES industry and market?   Time will tell.     Discussion is invited. Does Tocher have something to offer the AWES sector of wind energy?

Subject: Re: Tocher teaches

He seems in the 2008 filing with firm towered turbine focus; he flies the stabilized flexible wings in manners that keeps all the parts under the stability control of a grounded tower.     We wonder how his two core notions may be lofted into airborne wind energy with kite systems and not towers.     One direction would be in Airborne Architecture where platforms are flown in kite systems.    The other would be to have his notions using a taught kite line as the "tower" ... or a set of taut lifted kite lines; use either the suction notions or the ducting notions with his Rogallo-wing arrays.     ~JoeF

Subject: Invention in Rogallo-type towed kites

Playful Fillerhttps://ec.yimg.com/ec?url=http%3A%2F%2Fstatic.ozone.ru%2Fmultimedia%2Fbooks_covers%2F1001697407.jpg&t=1573669491&sig=HH_VeQ9FU_svanvg.EE.Xw--~E Suggested for use by FAI and others: Cancelled Hang Glider Claim Proposed statement: "I, JD, no longer claim to have invented globally a hang glider; rather, I tinkered up a craft that was mechanically new to me as I adapted Rogallo-world matters, but something fully in the public domain. I am sorry it took me so long to discover how very off the GH-pushed "invention" claim was. But people got to know me some by the push; now, maybe, the record can be set straight. I will communicate more later about how I recognize all the public domain art that came before my local tinkering. I do not want to injure the future progress of hang glider invention by any mode of discouraging new inventors from entering the hang glider invention space; they should see that invention is well-respected in hang gliding circles and within its organizations; I agree that higher scrutiny over "invention" matters could be exercised by hang gliding organizations while they prepare to publish statements that affect the hang gliding culture. I will face up to the work of John Worth, Ryan, and hundreds of others that covered all the mechanical structure and control and use aspects of the hang glider. And now I admit openly and publicly that my attempt to claim single-point hanging and A-frame control as novel … just does not hold up, as others certainly in hang gliiding and kiting already hung from one point and also had the A-frame; and now I also recognize that even Mr. Igor Bensen who influenced my gyro-kite-glider experience taught by example the use of the single-point hang in combination with the A-frame for control; such matter was already in my experience; somehow my tinkering ended up in using such prior mechanics. I am really a good guy; I enjoyed the attention while it lasted; and I agree that the text in awards should be modified to reflect a professional respect for prior invention and mechanical art that was in the public domain. I wish to thank Mike Burns for bringing my tinkering up to higher product standards as he had already deep experience with the Rogallo-type wing. I wish to thank again my wife for helping me make the sails of early versions. And Francis Rogallo for his leadership in the use of not only his fundamental Rogallo wing, but the stabilized stifferened holdings of the underlying aeroelastic Rogallo wing. I see now how deeply was his two decades of communications to many people that brought on the Rogallo Revolution that seeded part of the growth of towed kites and free-flight flexible wing hang gliders from toy size to giant commercial size with live and inanimate payloads of many sorts. I certainly do not want to be remembered as a grabber of mechanical invention merit that really belongs to hundreds of people prior to my crafting up an embodiment of what already was invented. I had fun and shared my fun; and my sharing became one of the many rivers of participation in free-fall ski kiting and later free-flight hang gliding, as my sharing did affect Bill Moyes and Bill Bennett; they went on to use the same public domain art that was extant prior to my crafting, but my sharing of my sport and my craft played an important part in Australian kiting and eventually hang gliding."

 Contact FAI with your urgeSun, Feb 10 2013, 4:35:54 am
http://www.fai.org/contact-us Letter to FAI this morning :
Injurious FAI statements in awards and diplomas that promote untenable claims of mechanical invention for John Dickenson should be changed to stop the injury to prior art merits; without changes injury to hang gliding will occur, as some inventors will turn away their glance at hang gliding because of the wrongful attributions. FAI has high responsibility to become historically and technically professional on the matter and move to make corrections in the text of the awards and diplomas. Inaction by the FAI will initiate a worldwide petition regarding the FAI and the matter.

The whole of the mechanical kite-glider was in public domain prior to John Dickenson's tinkerings. Calling him "inventor" of such mechanical system is very hurtful to many processes and people in several realms. Those hurts are festering.

The low professional historical scrutiny on the part of FAI and its feed organizations in the face of the push-bully-campaign byGraeme Henderson (traceable from day one in the literature and records) resulted in the stark injury to our sport's history. The facts of John Dickenson, like the facts of so many others, are fine; the hurting wrong attribution of global mechanical "invention" is now a record that needs to be officially changed by any involved organization that is sincere and responsible for the care of hang gliding's face to itself and to the broader aviation world

Abstract brief: A wheeled free kart, preferably for powering by kite, has a seat unit (7) mounted transversely slidably in the kart chassis, so that the rider can adjust the kart's centre of gravity according Lo the relative direction of the wind. Other features disclosed for the kart are a modular element and joint construction for chassis members (1), foot-operated steering which can also operated brakes, and wheels with annular flanges to dig into soft ground e.g. sand and thereby reduce leeway.
