Subject: Bose-Einstein Quantum States in Kitelines and Cross-Linked Kite Arra

An off-forum quest for a quantum-mechanical accounting for kite tug continues to advance, to ultimately enable a sound formal prediction of whether mechanical tug or FEGs with conductive cables promise the greatest AWES power transmission potential. Tug has a mysterious efficiency given supermaterials like UHMWPE, but how can we account for this?

Bose-Einstein statistics are being seen to apply to mechanical tug in a kiteline and the required phonon (boson) quantum coherence and correlation effects seem evident. This is a case of universal condensed matter physics being specifically identified in our  macroscale "room-temperature" liquid-crystal solids, not just the more famous cryogenic electrical superconductivity in solids and cryogenic condensed gas superfluidity models. BE statistics are lately being found in many macro-scale systems, such as car traffic and computer networks, and the kiteline and kite array BE finding is consistent with this expansive applicability. It seems that any lattice of (quasi) identical repeating physical elements, like a structural spaceframe in architecture, a Bell Cellular Kite*, mega-scale airborne latticework, molecular crystals, and wave-fields generally, share these emergent BE/QM statisical properties.

This is not yet the complete validated QM explanation of tug, but an important clue along the way...

* Which, given its design defects, would hardly fly at all without this overlooked advantage!

A wind outlet at the small end of the wind cylinder is provided with an auxiliary turbo-type windmill generator set.; The generated electricity is transmitted to a station on the ground by cables contained in the kite three rope ja and the kite rope a. A cylinder wing, a flap wing and a tail rudder are arranged on the wind cylinder, so that the wind cylinder can generate electricity by suspending in the high sky horizontally. A wing shaft ka of the aircraft wing is used as a pivot shaft, and an angle of attack of the aircraft wing can be regulated. The flap wing and the tail rudder of the wing cylinder are both automatically controlled by an electronic intelligent neural network. Operation accumulation hours of storm, heavy snow and wind borne sand in the high sky exceed a wind generating station on the ground. The present invention enables a region without wind energy resources to use wind energy electricity in the high sky.

A kite flown in the wind is used to unwind a cable from a drum, the rotary force being used to generate electricity. Once the cable is unwound, wind pressure acting against the kite is removed by automatically positioning it so that it behaves like a flag, kite positioning being carried with the aid of a remote-controlled servo motor (3) mounted on the kite. The kite is allowed to fall by winding the cable around its drum using a drive force. The kite is then positioned with the servo motor so it can catch the wind again and rises up. An Independent claim is also included for the apparatus used to generate electricity by this method, the cable drum being provided with a means for transferring rotary force to a fly-wheel and/or generator during cable unwind, whilst an axle arrangement mounted in a fixed frame is used to free-wheel the drum in the opposite rotation direction during cable wind-up.

The present invention relates to a wind power plant, which is an un-tethered autonomous flying device. This device, according to need, temporarily stores the energy harnessed from the wind, and later on forwards it to a receiver ground-station for further arbitrary usage. Like sailing birds, the invention applies the wind-gradients and updrafts for energy-production by means of dynamic soaring, - instead of static wind. The energy is temporarily stored in the form of liquid air. The liquid-air containers are made of flexible, double-walled plastic foil, and can be forwarded to the ground station by means of remote controlled or GPS-Guided Parafoils. The containers are discharged and folded on the ground, preparing them for the next use. A large number of such devices can be stored on a flying unit.; This way a lot of energy can be produced by every takeoff, since the flying unit does not need to take the energy-storing medium (air) with itself, and the payload is only slightly limited. The invention gets around the limitations of conventional windpower plants, as well as that of the high altitude types of devices, and allows as of yet unattainable possibilities in windpower utilisation.

The utility model provides a high-efficiency high-altitude kite electric generator, which can reduce the power consumption caused by the cable towing and greatly increase the transfer efficiency of wind energy. The utility model is constituted by a pair of high-altitude kites and an electric generator group, thereby the high-altitude kites are towed by cables, and are located on the upper-middle layer of troposphere (6000m-15000meters from the ground) during working. The high-altitude kites are provided with a flight posture adjusting device, which can used for receiving the control signal from the ground to adjust the angle of attack of the kites. The cables of the two high-altitude kites are in a linkage connection, and when one kite rises, the other descends. The cables and the rotor of the electric generator are in a linkage connection, and when the kites rise and descend, the cables drive the rotor to rotate. The energy loss of the cables can be reduced, because the energy generated in the upper air is not required to transmit to the cables on the ground. The flight posture of the high-altitude kites can be controlled through the wireless technology to replace the control rope of the prior arts, so that the energy conversion efficiency can be improved.

A series of horizontal axis type rotors is distributed along an elongate torque transmitting driveshaft. In many embodiments, the tower is combined with the driveshaft, projecting upward from its base, supported by a cantilevered bearing means, so it is free to rotate about its own axis. The tower/driveshaft is bent downwind, until the coaxially attached horizontal axis rotors become sufficiently aligned with the wind to rotate the entire tower/driveshaft. Power is drawn from the rotating shaft at the base. Surface mount, subsurface mount, and marine installations are disclosed, including a sailboat that can sail upwind, and store energy while moored.; Vertical axis rotor blades may be attached to the lower, substantially vertical section of the tower/driveshaft and even to the distal section of the tower/driveshaft, should it hang in a sufficiently vertical direction for such blades to contribute toward rotation. Vertical and horizontal axis type rotor blades may be interconnected along the entire length of the tower/driveshaft, serving as structural members, even to the point that a central shaft may be unnecessary. Blade to blade lashing may also be included. Various means, including downwind tails, lifting bodies, buoyant lifting bodies, buoyant rotor blades, and methods of influencing the tilt of the rotors, can help elevate the structure. A conventional tower may support a driveshaft with attached horizontal axis rotors, at an offset angle from the wind direction, to allow fresh wind to each rotor.

I'm rather bemused by this blizzard of patents from China.  I had the impression that the Central Kingdom had risen to pre-eminence in manufacturing without paying any significant royalties to others.
These seem to offer much more grist for lawyers than news of novelty.

After yesterday's patent flood, it should now be obvious to all that the global patent system is an unadjudicatable mess, and that the small AWE inventor generally faces ruin trying to defend a patent against vast commercial interests trading in thousands of junk patents as trolls.

There is hope in the form of a new model, the Linux Open Invention Network (OIN). AWEIA is proposed as the natural entity to lead our new industry in forming a defensive Patent Pool (and Creative Commons commercial license pool) to shield our open-source movement, precisely along the lines of the OIN. Our longterm goal would be to buyout all the patent smallholders who join in, with government or capital funds, or at least to create an inventive safe-space with our collective clout-

Subject: KitePlane Extreme Variable-Geometry (Rigid-Wing Soft-wing Hybrid)
This is an idea kicked around for years, but suddenly we can see how well it might fit AWES needs-

A major challenge to developing a hi L/D rigid-winged kiteplane is operating at slow speeds to take-off and land. Depending on exotic E-VTOL capability is very marginal; the risk of a power failure event calls for a costly back-up system, like a ballistic-parachute, to avoid catastrophe. Air transport wings have complex slat and flap systems for better STOL performance, but still require a lot of runway.

In principle a high-quality rigid kiteplane can smoothly and reversibly deploy soft kite extensions from within its volume to greatly increase wing area (
