Topic     Calm kiting: distance games

  • Sub-games are possible, even with just "distance," because rule sets form distinct games.  Suggested rule sets are welcome. Discussions to modify a rule set are welcome. Etc.
  • Games surrounding "distance" might inform AWES launching, landing, operations.

Distance:  Place wing at a distance from human anchor under a certain rule set.
Rule set: Calm air, indoor. No energy storage in wing or line besides initial potential energy at start; start of game is wing held by human pilot. One wing kite system. One main tether to wing; no second line from pilot to main line or to wing. One human anchor pilot. Human may not leave a one-meter diameter disk platform. Pilot may toss the wing to start. Any line material. Any size of wing. Any design of wing.  Wing may not touch floor until final placement of wing. Line may touch  floor during the effort. No control  stick.  Hand-held line at all times during the effort. No time limit. No air thermals permitted. No assist from animals, people, things besides human pilot control inputs effected to the line. No springs or batteries in the wing or in the line. Simple line; that is, line may not be compounded with such devices as gas trasfer or electricity transfer. No batteries. No electrical devices. No PV cells. No inertial motors.  This rule set might be edited when objections or suggestions are made; notice that changing any phrase of the above rule set forms a new rule set and probably then a new non-equivalent game; there is room for thousands of rule sets guiding thousands of different "distance" games.   One day there may be a rule set that becomes more popular than others.
Effort:  Toss wing. Control line. Get that wing a far away from the pilot platform as possible. When wing touches the floor, then measure the distance from the pilot platform center. Accept the result. Report to world-record bodies. Compare results with others' efforts.  How might one improve the distance? What of the explorations might well inform AWE?
